ScanTailor Advanced Version History
Every release of ScanTailor Advanced published on the project’s official GitHub repository, newest first. The dates, download files and change summaries below are taken from the project’s own release notes. Two things in this table surprise people, so they are worth stating up front: Windows users’ latest release is v1.1.1, because the v1.2.x releases have shipped Linux builds only; and v1.2.0 renamed the executable from scantailor to scantailor-advanced.
| Version | Released | Official downloads | Highlights (from the release notes) |
|---|---|---|---|
| v1.2.1 | May 24, 2026 | Linux: AppImage (x86_64) and .deb (amd64) | Fix-focused release: optional X11/xcb fallback for Wayland rendering, multi-monitor context menus kept on-screen, manually adjusted content box preserved after split-page offcut changes, reverse two-page spread order for right-to-left workflows, and deskew/oblique fixes. |
| v1.2.0 | May 24, 2026 | Linux: AppImage (x86_64) and .deb (amd64) | Breaking change: the installed executable is renamed from scantailor to scantailor-advanced. Also adds pausing automatic thumbnail reordering, Ctrl+drag rubber-band selection on thumbnails, inline Source DPI fields in the Margins panel, and manual per-image trim in Fix Orientation. |
| v1.1.1 | April 3, 2026 | Windows: portable ZIP (x64) | Oblique Deskew for physically tilted pages, three new binarization methods (Fox, Window and Grad), Relative Project Paths so projects stay movable between machines and folders, and a threshold overflow fix on Windows. This remains the latest official Windows build. |
| v1.0.19 | July 16, 2023 | Windows: ZIP (x64) | EdgePlus local/global thresholding method for image binarization, and AppImage support for Linux. |
| v1.0.18 | April 23, 2022 | Windows: ZIP (x64) | Negative margins, an updated Polish translation, and a fix for OpenGL on Wayland. |
| v1.0.17 | February 6, 2022 | Windows: ZIP (x64) | New German, Polish, French and Korean translations; black added as a filling colour option alongside background and white; a 1200 DPI output option. The first release published from the current repository. |
Why Is Windows Still on v1.1.1?
Because that is what the project has published. The two newest releases, v1.2.0 and v1.2.1 (both May 24, 2026), published Linux artifacts only — an AppImage and a .deb — and no Windows binary. The most recent Windows asset in the official releases is the v1.1.1 portable ZIP (13,998,927 bytes, SHA-256 d03c9eebdf8c9196941d8a0a9a8ca52a6b6e2ed7415f362a313e7f0bd76283ab), which is what the download page offers as the Windows download. If a site offers you a “v1.2.1 for Windows” installer, it did not come from the project’s releases.
The Executable Rename in v1.2.0
v1.2.0 renamed the installed executable from scantailor to scantailor-advanced, and the project flags this as a breaking change: scripts, desktop shortcuts and packaging that invoke the old name need updating. On Windows this does not affect you yet — the v1.1.1 build still runs as scantailor.exe — but it explains why Linux users on current releases launch scantailor-advanced instead.
Before This Repository
ScanTailor Advanced merges the features of the earlier ScanTailor Featured and ScanTailor Enhanced versions, themselves forks of the original ScanTailor created by Joseph Artsimovich in 2007. The original project’s repository is now archived; its last release was 0.9.12.1 in 2016. Early Advanced releases before v1.0.17 were published from the maintainer’s earlier repository; the table above covers the releases in the current official repository, which is where new versions appear today. The about page tells the longer story.
Getting the Current Release
The download page always carries the current official builds with their file sizes and SHA-256 checksums: v1.1.1 for Windows, v1.2.1 for Linux. Platform guides: Windows, Linux, macOS.
